Lights of Winter Retiring is the Last Straw for Disney Fans

Lights of Winter retiring is the last straw for Disney fans: demanding a better Disney Christmas!
Disney announced on twitter this week that:
"Note: The Lights of Winter at Epcot has been enjoyed for years. But tech to operate the lights is obsolete, prompting us to retire the lights"
For those of you who haven’t had the joy of experiencing the lights, there were 30,000 of them set into arches that covered the walkway connecting Future World to World Showcase. They “danced” to synchronized holiday music.
Fans are beyond upset, I have read through my fair share of backlash after theme park announcements, but this one takes the cake! Facebook groups have even been started in protest of the Lights leaving. Not only are fans upset about what is happening, they were insulted it was announced on twitter.
It seems fans want a “real” explanation about why the Lights of Winter are being taken down. They have argued that they can be switched to a more cost effective LED light with minimal work and cost. Disney also has a long record of refurbishing out of date attractions, rarely do they just get rid of them.
All of this grumbling has led to even more upset over the fact that Disney World Orlando does not have the holiday rides that DisneyLand California has. Haunted Mansion gets a Nightmare Before Christmas makeover for the holidays on the west coast, why can’t we?
Seems Disney is learning quite the lesson this week. Social Media can in fact be used the wrong way, no matter who you are. And just because an attraction doesn’t directly bring in visitors to the park, it can make them not come to the park at all. Fans on the message boards are threatening to skip Christmas at Disney this year and are sending some strong hints that Christmas better be spectacular next year or the fan wrath will be had.
