After nearly 15 years of selling joint ticket packages, the two resorts must decide within the next year and a half whether they want to continue selling the "Orlando FlexTicket." The contract governing the joint passes - which offer 14 days of unlimited admission to both Universal's and SeaWorld's collection of theme parks - comes up for renewal in December 2011.
The impending renegotiation will offer one of the first signs of whether Universal and SeaWorld will align themselves even more closely following last year's roughly $2.5 billion purchase of SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment (formerly Busch Entertainment Corp.) by the private-equity giant Blackstone Group from Anheuser-Busch InBev. Blackstone already co-owns Universal Orlando with General Electric Co.'s NBC Universal.
