Gatorland Debuts Mile of Monsters

The Mile of Monsters, set to debut Saturday, Feb. 13, will be a self-guided walking tour that gives the background on 10 of the most notorious creatures at the South Orange Blossom Trail attraction.
"They each have a special story. For whatever reason, they're endeared to us," says Tim Williams, Gatorland's director of media productions and its dean of gator wrestling. "It's hard to believe that an animal that chases you and wants to try to eat you, that you'd think ‘Man, that's a good animal - he almost got me.' But that's the way it is."
Some of the gators on the tour will be relocated to new quarters for easy viewing, while others will be pointed out through signage that indicates where the animal in question tends to hang. Checking out each "monster" will, indeed, mean a mile of walking, Williams says.
Included in the cycle will be the park's four white - or leucistic - gators in their habitat that protects them from direct sunlight. There will be 10 highlighted animals at first, but the park intends to expand that to 24.
