In more breaking Disney movie news, comes a new suprise...Anne Frank the Disney Story.
Disney has just acquired the rights to do a remake of "The Diary of Anne Frank" which will be written and directed by playright David Mamet of Pulitzer Price fame, and produced along with Andrew Bransberg.
The director will be drawing from the diary itself as well as the play by Albert Hacket and Frances Goodrich to give the story of Anne Frank a fresh introduction to a new generation about a young Jewish girl named Anne Frank, who during WWII hid along with her family in a secret attic in Amsterdam from 1942 until being discovered in 1944 by the Nazis.
Margot Frank, the sole survivor of the family to have survived their internment in Bergen-Belsen, discovered her sister's diary after the end of WWII and went on to publish it in 1947. The first English translation was 1952, and since has become one of the most well read books in the world.
Rumor has it that Braunsberg reportedly spent a year negotiating with the estates of Frank, Hackett, and Goodrich to earn the rights to the famed story.
This is a huge risk for Disney to take on such a heavy subject. Not to mention the potential hordes of angry people if they don't meet expectations to do justice to one of the most beautiful and innocent minds of history.
We will update any new information that comes out as the project evolves and really look forward to the completed product.
