Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides is shaping up to be epic. Not only has Penelope Cruz signed up, but there will be mermaids! Even better, it will be in 3D.
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides will be shot with 3D cameras and distributed worldwide in stereoscopic 3D, using what Disney refer to as Disney Digital 3D.
Not long ago Disney announced that Pirates 4 was going to be the victim of budget cuts. I am a little confused about how we go from budget cuts to using new state of the art technology to film and edit film that has already been shot, but really I can't complain.
Despite the major change in the way the movie will be filmed, the release date is still on schedule for May 20th 2011.

Sam Mendez, Robert Downey Jr., and 3D...oh my!
More info is emerging on "The Great Powerful," the Wizard of Oz prequel that's being developed at Disney.
Sam Mendes, who sits atop the short list of director candidates, is set to fly in from London in the next few weeks to meet with studio chief Rich Ross and other Disney executives.
Robert Downey Jr. is one of the actors being considered, but a number of dominoes would yet have to fall for that to happen, including, perhaps most trickily, some navigation of his already-packed schedule.
The project is aiming to shoot in 3-D, with the idea that plenty of Oz set-pieces could benefit from the z-axis treatment, just as they did in "Alice."
We could see the Wizard back on the big screen by as early as 2012.

Disney has ended its search for a new hearthrob to take the place of Orlando Bloom in Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides, due out in theaters on May 20th 2011.
Meet 23 year old Sam Claflin - the latest addition to the cast of ‘Pirates of the Carribean 4: On Stranger Tides'.
Brit born, Claflin will be making waves as he steps into the role of Philip, a missonary who gets mixed up with Johnny Depp's, Captain Jack Sparrow on his search for the ‘fountain of youth'.
He may not actally be playing William Turner but Disney had to replace the role that appeals to teenage girls which Orlando Bloom took away when he refused to reprise his role. Goes to show everyone is replaceable and Pirates 4 is shaping up to be the best yet in the series despite both Bloom and Knightley leaving.

Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides indeed! There will be mermaids, or one mermaid at least.
Astrid Bergès-Frisbey has been selected by producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Rob Marshall to star in the key role of Syrena, a beautiful and alluring young mermaid, in Walt Disney Pictures'/Jerry Bruckheimer Films' epic adventure "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," the fourth in the blockbuster series of films.
You will be able to see her in Pirates 4 on May 20th 2011.
